This old Fiat 124 Spyder was a rare treat to see on my normal walking route. I knew this thing was for sale based on a Craigslist ad but I had never seen it out from under the tarp. A ccording to the owners a now sold ‘90 Miata (first year, wow!) was the other car I had never seen in the daylight. This one will be picked up tomorrow to head off to Texas for a full restoration. These things must be in demand if this rusty but complete example was snapped up from so far away. A classic Jaaaaaaa ag still remains in their driveway under a tarp, which used to be a daily.
I then talked to another man who I always see out and about driving his VW Type II bus. Apparently it is his daily too! (I made sure to ask before taking pictures) I was making sure to stand six feet apart and not touch anything, but looking back it was a bit higher risk than I wanted.
Both Beetles had a custom 90hp engine swap that supposedly makes them somewhat terrifying to open up the throttle on. He claimed 6 0 mph in third gear which sounds pretty crazy for a Beetle. The earlier b lue one also had a tan two tone paint job that didn’t show up in the photos.
There was this classic Ford with a mild hot rod treatment. You can’t see it in this photo but there was a cool blue stripe too. A classic Mustang also lurked in the other bay.
We had a nice conversation about the history of the house. A recent estate division had left him the task of clearing out all those boxes before he could work on his cars again. I hope to run into him again.

DOTS? Directly observed treatment short-course?

that type II is gorgeous - nicer than when it left the factory

Ford is a 35-36 3 window coupe. cool cars but when customized can give a stronger “boomer” vibe than white tennis shoes and a fanny back paired with whining about millennials. The Fiat says forgotten dreams, may it live again. I like the hood script on the Beetle.

Yup. You should have seen that original non- rusty floorpan and vinyl interior.

I actually really liked the blue Beetle. The earlier taillights also we re pretty interesting.
As for the Fiat I was quite enthused to finally see it in the light. Too bad that will be the last since it will have been gone by now.

I am surprised someone is saving the Fiat, to be honest. They aren’t high value cars, and they rust upon exposure to air. Someone must love it.

I was too. The interior was pretty nice but man, the rust and body filler and dents and scratches! Hope it doesn't get parted out.
